Google’s Pixel Fold 2 Revealed: Sleeker Design and Enhanced Features Leaked

Recent leaks have unveiled the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL, but the spotlight now shifts to Google’s second-generation foldable. New images from Taiwan’s NCC reveal the Pixel Fold 2, ditching the original’s design for a sleek, taller look. With a revamped camera housing and slimmer bezels, this foldable is set to impress.

Recent leaks have revealed nearly every detail of Google’s upcoming Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL models. However, the company’s second-generation foldable phone has remained largely under wraps until now. According to Android Authority, new regulatory photos from Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) have fully exposed the Pixel Fold 2, also known as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

The photos reveal that Google has abandoned the original Pixel Fold’s short and wide design, which distinguished it from Samsung’s tall and narrow Galaxy Fold. The new model resembles the OnePlus Open, featuring a taller outer display that offers ample screen space.

There’s still a crease. But maybe a less prominent one?

The back of the device shows that Google has done away with the iconic camera bar, opting for a new camera housing design. This new style appears large enough to prevent the phone from wobbling when placed on a flat surface. The inner display is also taller and narrower than the original, with thinner bezels. However, this design choice places the inner camera as a cutout in the upper-left corner of the display, rather than in the bezel, which may be less preferable for some users.

And a long, camera bar.

Another notable change is the battery capacity, which has been reduced to 4,560mAh from the original Pixel Fold’s 4,727mAh. The first-generation Pixel Fold was not known for its long battery life, so it remains to be seen if the new Tensor processor will offer enough efficiency improvements to offset the smaller battery.

The original Pixel Fold’s short, squat display make it such a good one-handed phone. But it’s a damn heavy one

The original Pixel Fold, has a unique appeal despite its shortcomings in screen brightness, speaker quality, and app optimization. Hopefully, the second-generation model will address these issues, even though it is expected to maintain a high price point of around $2,000.

The new 45W charger looks quite a bit different than Google’s current wall plug.

In addition to the Pixel 9 series and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the regulatory images also reveal a new 45-watt USB-C charger. This charger features a more rounded design compared to the chargers Google has included with Pixel phones in recent years.

Red Sea Cable Cuts Cripple Microsoft Azure, Disrupt 17% of Global Internet Traffic

Multiple undersea fiber optic cables were cut in the Red Sea, disrupting Microsoft Azure services and slowing internet traffic across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe—affecting nearly 17% of global connectivity.

Multiple undersea fiber optic cables in the Red Sea were damaged, causing significant disruptions to Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform and affecting internet connectivity across India, Pakistan, UAE, and other regions.

The impact:

  • Microsoft Azure users experiencing increased latency, especially for Asia-Europe traffic routes
  • Nearly 17% of global internet traffic flows through Red Sea cables
  • Key systems affected include SMW4, IMEWE, SEACOM/TGN-EA, AAE-1, and EIG cables
  • Failures occurred near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Microsoft’s response: “Undersea fiber cuts can take time to repair; as such, we will continuously monitor, rebalance, and optimize routing to reduce customer impact in the meantime.”

The broader concern: The Red Sea is one of the world’s most critical internet chokepoints. With ongoing regional conflicts, experts worry critical digital infrastructure could become deliberate targets.

Repair timeline: Subsea cable repairs typically take weeks due to the logistics of mobilizing cable repair ships and securing permits in politically sensitive waters.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced a major breakthrough today with the company’s AI5 chip design, calling it “epic” and predicting the upcoming AI6 could be “the best AI chip by far”.

In a social media post, Musk revealed: “Just had a great design review today with the Tesla AI5 chip design team! This is going to be an epic chip. And AI6 to follow has a shot at being the best AI chip by far.”

What makes this significant:

  • Tesla is consolidating from two chip architectures to one, focusing all silicon talent on a single incredible chip
  • Musk believes AI5 will be “the best inference chip for models with fewer than 250 billion parameters”
  • The chip offers “the lowest silicon cost and highest performance-to-power ratio”
  • AI6 is expected to advance these capabilities even further

The job recruitment angle: Musk is actively recruiting engineers, emphasizing they’d be working on chips that “save lives” where “milliseconds matter”—clearly referencing Tesla’s autonomous driving ambitions.

This comes after Tesla shut down its Dojo supercomputer project last month, with the company deciding to focus resources on a single chip architecture rather than splitting development.
