Netflix has officially announced the forthcoming arrival of the seventh season of Black Mirror. Scheduled for 2025, the latest installment of Charlie Brooker’s acclaimed sci-fi anthology will consist of six episodes.

While specific details remain scarce at this early stage, Netflix has revealed that the upcoming season will feature a blend of fresh narratives. Notably, one of the episodes will serve as a sequel to the season 4 installment “USS Callister,” starring Jesse Plemons. The teaser hints at unresolved issues for the crew of the USS Callister following the demise of Robert Daly.

The show’s return follows a relatively short break, especially compared to previous hiatuses in Black Mirror’s history. Season 6 premiered just last year, showcasing a range of compelling episodes, exploring themes from space-centered horror to celebrity culture critique to a chilling reflection on the trajectory of streaming platforms. Given the series’ penchant for timely and thought-provoking commentary, it’s reasonable to expect that recent technological developments such as AI and the metaverse may serve as inspiration for the upcoming stories.

A new actor has stepped into the iconic role of Geralt of Rivia, but the signature white wig remains the same. Liam Hemsworth is set to take over the role in Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher, succeeding Henry Cavill. Entertainment Weekly has given us our first official glimpse of Hemsworth as Geralt, and he appears as you might expect—Liam Hemsworth with Geralt’s distinctive white hair. It’s unclear if the show will address the actor change within the storyline, but the initial image suggests the transition may be quite smooth.

Here’s a preview of Hemsworth in action:

Henry Cavill departed from the role after season 3, albeit with an exit that didn’t fully do his portrayal justice. Hemsworth will don the white wig and wield Geralt’s dual swords starting in season 4, which is currently being filmed, and continue through season 5, confirmed to be the series’ final season. Along with a new Geralt, season 4 will introduce fresh faces to the cast, including Laurence Fishburne, Sharlto Copley, James Purefoy, and Danny Woodburn.

One Piece Anime Remake on Netflix Announced

Netflix is starting fresh with One Piece.

Netflix announced Sunday that it will be reimagining the popular manga for a new anime series during the popular manga and anime convention Jump Festa 2024. Titled The One Piece, the series is currently in production. A release date has yet to be revealed.

The series is confirmed to be produced by WIT Studio, which is known for their work on hit anime such as SPY x FAMILY and Attack on Titan, in partnership with Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, and Toei Animation Co. Here is everything you need to know about the new One Piece anime remake, its production staff, and when it is coming.

It promises to be “distinct” from the ongoing TV anime series that has been running for more than two decades, “to provide viewers with a fresh yet familiar experience, utilizing cutting-edge visual technology to reimagine Luffy’s adventures through the beloved East Blue saga.”

Based on Eiichiro Oda’s manga title, One Piece follows the otherworldly adventures of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his pirate crew as they explore exotic islands and endless oceans in search for the ultimate treasure “One Piece” to become the next Pirate King.

Also on Sunday, Netflix announced it will adapt another manga by Oda, Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation.

The series, which Oda created when he was just 19 years old, is being adapted for the first time in the upcoming anime, set to premiere in January. The series follows Ryuma, a samurai entangled in a world disrupted by an ominous force—a dragon capable of unleashing catastrophic destruction upon the land.

Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation is produced by E&H production.

The new collaborations with Oda come on the heels of Netflix’s successful One Piece live-action adaptation, which has already been renewed for Season 2. The series played well in the U.S., as well as internationally, marking a much needed win for Netflix on the live-action anime front.

The news has not only surprised and delighted fans but has also prompted the production team working on the upcoming remake of the One Piece series to express their thoughts in official statements. You can find these statements below, as shared through an official tweet.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the forthcoming remake, Takeshi Wada, the president of WIT Studio, also shared his sentiments with the following words:

After thinking through many concerns before taking on this new adventure, I decided to discuss it with everyone and take a stand. ONE PIECE is an anime with over 1000 episodes created by everyone at Toei Animation. I am humbled by the weight of our history and the prospect of charting a new trajectory.

Furthermore, Wada added, “We aim to electrify people all over the world by carefully depicting the challenges of pursuing dreams, friendship with friends, and hope for the future, as depicted by Eiichiro Oda. In order to deliver this work to every corner of the world, we still need the help of all creators. Would you like to participate in this project and engrave your name on the film? WIT STUDIO is looking forward to your participation!!”

As the production staff mentioned in its comments in the tweet linked above, the release date of the One Piece remake is yet to be confirmed. The One Piece remake is a “long way off,” as per their statement. This means it will take a long time to get our hands on it.
